Photography Portraiture! In 1959, David bailey started as an assistant for a photographer at the John french studio. Then when on to work for the 'Vogue' Magazine in the early 1960's. He became a socialist who advocates communism through his fashion photographs and portraits which was vital to that decade's renaissance in fashion, graphic design and photography. David Baileys work is mainly studio based photography. A lot of his styles consist of black and white images. He captures the subjects personality through his pictures. Although David Bailey says, "You can't photograph someone's soul, but you can photograph their body language. I watch how someone moves-the little things. I spend more time talking to people then photographing them" My picture uses the same style as David Baileys portrait of Jack Nicholson. To create a picture showing my subjects personality was hard to capture. I made my subject show his cheekiness through a common pose. To create the lighting in the same style I used two reflectors, to highlight the back Drop. To make the light consistent to stop gradient shadowing I measured the light to make sure it was evenly spread. I then used another reflector forty-five degrees from my subject to create the shadows across his face. To keep my photograph sharp I used the shutter speed on a sixtieth of a second to minimize blurring.
Self portrait, In this picture I had to portray myself through an image which I found hard because like David Bailey Says "You can't photograph someone's soul". I'm now twenty-five and find myself on most days contemplating the past, present and future. So to create a picture that shows this I tried to get into deep thought so it would show through my eyes. To enhance this I used a reflector so it would shine in my eyes in the image. I feel like this will draw attention towards my eyes and give the look of deep thought. I also looked away from the camera and relaxed my eyes which gives the picture a relaxing feel. I also used a subtle light and I didn't illuminate the backdrop to give this a relaxed atmosphere.
Noel Gallager Style<, To create this image I used two reflectors one on the background and another on my subject. I did this to cast a shadow and keep half of his face in darkness. This also created the look of one eye which I planned to go with the comedy of this image. I moved the position of the focus to the far left to make his feet and body to blur off into the distance. I feel like this technique draws your attention to the face and gives the picture a focus point. I did this because it gave this image more depth and made him look larger than he is.
Comedy image of Daniel, Like my other images I tried to portray Daniel showing his funny side. So I took this picture on an angle to make him look he is leaning to the side abnormally. To create this image I used a similar light set up as David Bailey. Except I used only one reflector and turned up the flash strength to 5.09. I did this so it would create a circle gradient behind my subject. I used my shutter speed on a 1/60 and my aperture to F5.
