I looked at the work of many different artists and I found I really liked some of David Bailey's early work, this was from around 1965 to 1970.
Here are some examples of his work from that period.

I like the way the Camera is slightly angled up and the background is white, which makes the subject really stand out.
You can really see the strong blacks and nice whites in these photos, I hope to try and recreate these in my photos.
Please compare my photo of Oscar in this style and read below to find out how I managed this style.
Where the photo was taken
This photo was taken in a playground in Driffield, Oscar was stood on a small climbing Frame.
The Weather
The weather was very bright with no clouds and very cold.
What I did
The Camera was set to Black and White and angled up at Oscar's face.
In David's photos he may have used a white background, I did not have this option so I had to play with the Camera setting to achieve this.
The Fact that the Camera was set to black and white helped a great deal, but there was still a few clouds showing up on the finished photo. I could have easily removed these in Photoshop - but I did not want to use any editing software as that does not make good practice.
I played with the Aperture and got the desired effect after a few attempts. I had the shutter speed set very fast due to the intensity of the sun. I remember this photo was taken just after dinner this is probably when the sun is at its greatest power!
I also placed Oscar in the center of the frame, I think he is in a great position and again I really like this photo.
