ASPECTS OF PLAY - WEEK EIGHT
WEEKS COVERAGE
I spent this week looking into interesting and quirky styles and colour schemes that would compliment my game nicely, so then i could reproduce my own version of the style i saw fit.
Unknown Sega Game

I tried to find out exactly what this game was but was unable to find a name, other than the possibility that it belongs to Sega as it was noted in the URL, but no official name. Either way the style for this game is amazing, i found that the bright and vivid colours pop off the screen so much, so i was very interested in doing a rather vibrant looking game. Also the game is full on pixel art and being a pixel artist, this made me want to try it, though flash doesn't cater for pixels in the same way as Microsoft Paint. This game also gave me the idea of possibly making my game for two players, if i have more time to develop it down the line.
Avatar Spoof

This background is from a Newgrounds(www.newgrounds.com) animation i watched recently that managed to deliver an almost unreal colour palette, that literally made my jaw drop. In the picture they use a very powerful blue tint to objects that do not produce light, but if the object projects light such as the moon or stars, they give off a vibrant yellow/pinky colour. This colour theory is good because by applying certain colour toneage to objects in my game, i can give off a more eye appeasing scene for the viewer to enjoy whilst they play.
Citrus Engine - http://citrusengine.com/

The 'Citrus Engine' is something i managed to come across on google when searching for Flash Platformer games. Citrus is an engine that is open for people to buy and download, it gives you the basis of a professional platformer game and allows you to modify it, to what you see as fit. The style on the Citrus demo was very interesting, as they use both 2D and 3D renders...so i saw this is a possible idea to take into consideration "style wise" as it will help me develop my 3D skills too as i lack in that department, though it may take up more of my time to make the game, so i'll have to weigh out the pro's and con's.
Patapon - http://www.us.playstation.com/patapon/

Patapon is a very quirky and addictive game, also unlike most sidesrollers it's a game of one and it's own due to it takes the twist in Genre becoming a rhythm sidescroller. Aswell as the game being incredibly innovative in Genre and Gameplay, the graphical style is stunning yet so simple. The backgrounds of the game consist of very basic shapes taking the form of scenery such as mountains, trees and so on. The backgrounds seems to have the same colour in common too but different tones and variants of that colours to make it compliment itself better.
Aswell as the backgrounds being stylistic, so are the monsters that inhabit the game. The monsters are basically silhouettes with minimal colour, usually limiting it too black and white and maybe an odd touh of a saturated colour, which means the overall look of the game looks stunning and fluid. This is definitely going to inspire and affect my final product for this module.
