ASPECTS OF PLAY - WEEK SIX
WEEKS COVERAGE
This week i worked on the character more, considering i had the main three enemies down that would cause Badgerman the trouble, i now needed to think of how he would look and how i would equip him evenly to battle his challenges, trying to avoid making it too hard for the individual playing the game.

THE HERO - BADGERMAN

Basic Concepts


The first picture to the left was my first design that i just dished up within seconds, very simple and just trying to convey a basic idea of perspective and general anatomy, nothing special or remotely interesting, just a starting point. The second picture in was my more developed one, i have changed the perspective a little more to face the screen, i've also added extra details such as the patch on his stomach and the obvious ears. The third picture in, changed completely as i started to get this idea that he should be more like Rambo due to his representation during the game is a one man army, so it kind of made sense to go down this route.

The fourth picture in was done more as a poster or introduction design as the badger has been shaded in a little more than the rest and is facing away from the screen, complimented by the text "Exiled by Penguins", trying to convey a more sad tone for the game, though when i drew this i had no intention of using this design, i just wanted to explore it more. Then finally the fifth picture across is my chosen and probably my most simple design, which just uses very basic shapes along with two colours; black and white.

I chose the last design because its quirky and it tends to stick out alot more than the other designs because of it's uniqueness in comparison. The quirkyness of the design also points out how quirky the game itself is going to be and therefore goes hand in hand.


Weapon Insight
Due to Badgerman having to kill Penguins to reach the end of a level, i had to think of what i should equip him with to battle the odds, so i thought through some very simple ideas like Machine Gun, BB Gun, Shotgun etc but none of these seemed to pop out, so i them thought about things in relation to Penguins and the Environment and managed to come up with the idea of a Fish Launcher, which is pretty explanatory as to what it does.

The idea is he would shoot this fish launcher every time you press SPACE and it would fly across the screen and hit an enemy in it's path, right in the face...which would therefore subdue them and remove them from the level. I think a fish launcher says everything it needs to say for my game as it is yet another element that raises the quirky bar and contributes nicely.
