CLIENT ORIENTED PRACTISE FOR GAMES DESIGN

BRIEF

Design and develop a fairy concept for a game for a specific platform (DS) with the age range of 8 +. As a group come up with three initial concepts and pitch those three concepts; then develop one of the concepts and produce a visual and/ or playable demo .

PROPOSAL

I proposed the concept called Wii Folk in which tiny power fairy’s that live inside the Wii console in a town called Circuit City. The game would be similar to that of Animal Crossing in the look, feel and play. However, the group proposed to go with the concept of Matthew Hardiman in which there was a toy factory that created fairies and one of them would escape to go in search of a real fairy. This was later changed to Steve Conlan's concept of fairy who falls asleep on a tree stump in a meadow with his family only to wake up find them missing and then goes in search of them; Kip the lost fairy. The playable demonstrative prototype game will be a 2D point & click adventure utilizing the platform of the DS.

RESEARCH

From the beginning of the project I began to research images and text concerning the folklore and tales of fairies. I uploaded many images to base camp which I felt could be of some use and information that I had found.

PLANNING

The group planned to use the base camp facility to upload files, organise jobs and to document all other aspects of this project. Through meetings and a to do list on base camp we would delegate jobs for the week ahead. The team also delegated roles for each member utilizing each members skill set.For example Steve Conlan’s action script skills, Matthew Hardiman’s animation skills; my quick conceptual skills etc.

REVIEW

I am pleased with the end product and the feel of the piece. I am also pleased with some of the character designs and assets I created for this piece. However, I felt that the team work could have gone a lot smoother; the work could have been done a lot quicker and shared more equally.
